Focusing the Mind on God: A Spiritual Discourse
This afternoon, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj began the program with a prayer for happiness and joy for the coming year. He encouraged everyone to make the most of the golden opportunity of their human birth by focusing their attention in the spiritual arena. The spiritual Master explained that difficulties in our lives often come about because of habits, and these habits can keep us from knowing the truth. While habits are not easy to change, with patience, guidance, compassion and support, we can break any habit. We have become habituated to living life at the level of our physical senses. Taking all that we experience at the physical level to be real, we are unaware of the supreme purpose for which we are alive. By meditating on the inner Light and Sound of God, we learn to break this habit as we focus the attention of our mind on God. As the mind develops this habit, we awaken to the reality of our existence and find that our spiritual progress comes in leaps and bounds. He said the true goal of this life is to know God, and to find our oneness with God. It is a goal that is achievable by each and every one of us, regardless of who we are and where we come from. We have been given all the faculties needed to achieve this. It is our responsibility to put them to good use. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji said. It all starts with sitting in silence, taking our attention away from the world outside, and focusing it within ourselves.
