Becoming Desireless
In his web broadcast today, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj spoke of how desires can impede our spiritual progress, and how overcoming our desires paves the path Godward. Regardless of where we are born, we all come into this world with the same great purpose: to realize our true nature as soul and to find God.
We have been given everything that is needed to fulfill this noble goal. Yet, unaware of our purpose, we spend our lives focused on the outer world, driven by our desire to amass material wealth in our quest for happiness.
With time, we realize that all worldly possessions are temporary and subject to loss and destruction. We do not receive lasting joy or happiness by fulfilling our desires. Unbeknownst to us, even as we while away our time pursuing mere trinkets, the real treasures lie buried deep within, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji said. To access these treasures, we need to overcome our desires and divert our attention from without to within. This happens as we meditate.
When we meditate with the help and guidance of a spiritual Master, our soul can embark on a journey to the inner spiritual regions and experience the love and Light of God—the real treasures.
As the soul connects with the Light of God, it experiences an awakening. When we experience the divine treasures, we automatically shed our desires for worldly wealth and possessions. With a strengthened focus on our goal, we begin to take steady steps Godward.
