Lead a Life of Detachment
Today, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj’s discourse at the SOS International Meditation Center in Lisle, Illinois, focused on how we should lead our lives to be happy perpetually and fulfill the purpose of our human birth.
Living at the level of our physical senses, we believe that all we experience through our senses is real, said the spiritual Master. We become attached to the attractions that adorn this worldly stage, pinning our happiness on what we believe will bring us physical, emotional, and intellectual benefits and joy. At some point, however, we awaken to the temporary nature of everything in this material world.
If we are to lead life as it should be lived, we must follow the blueprint offered to us by the saints and mystics. The spiritual path calls on us to make the most of the rare opportunity we have been given in this human body so our soul can find its way back to God. However, the path Godward does not require that we negate life. We can enjoy the beauty, attractions, and bounty of this world, but we should not become attached to it. Nothing in this world can bring us lasting happiness because it is all temporary.
To find the perpetual happiness we seek, we must attach ourselves to God. To do so, we need to learn to move our attention from the outer world to the inner world through meditation. As we do so, our soul connects with the Light of God and embarks on the journey within to realize its merger with the Creator, thus fulfilling life’s supreme purpose.
