Cultivating Healthy Habits
In his spiritual discourse today, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji spoke of the need to cultivate healthy habits that will bring us closer to God. We spend our lives habitually focused on the outer world, believing that whatever we experience through our physical senses is all there is to this life. In the process, we remain unaware of a greater reality and the supreme purpose of our lives.
If we are to attain the goal of this human existence, we need to break the habit of how we spend our time each day and cultivate new habits that will bring us closer to God.
The first step, said the spiritual Master, is to have a genuine desire to introspect and look at how we lead our lives. This desire drives us to spend more time in meditation, a process that takes our attention away from the world outside and focuses it within where the divine treasures reside. To introduce meditation into our lives, we need to fix a time each day and set a place that is dedicated to the practice. Next, we need to follow the technique accurately to still our body, fix our gaze, and still our mind. Cultivating a habit takes time, but if we keep at it, we will be able to fine-tune our meditations, and with time, we will connect with God’s love and light within. Once we experience God’s love, life will become calm, peaceful, and fulfilling.
