During a live global broadcast today, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj spoke on the nature of time, shedding light on how we can make the best use of the time that has been given to us. There are three facets of time, he said: the past, the present, and the future. If we are to fulfil life’s purpose, it is important that we live in the present, while letting go of the past, and not worrying about the future.

The past cannot be changed, said the spiritual Master. Dwelling on the past can reawaken old wounds that keep us from forgetting, forgiving, and moving on. Thus, it introduces more turmoil into our present lives. By the same token, when we focus on the future, we become apprehensive in light of the uncertainty before us. Riddled with fear, we spend much of our waking hours planning for and imagining the future, and in the process, we while away the current moment.

The present, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji emphasized, is where we need to focus our attention. It is called the present because it is a gift; a gift from God, which, when put to good use, can help us fulfil the purpose for which we are all here. As we meditate, we are focusing on the current moment and using it to find our closeness with God. God wants us to know, experience, and love God, and to respond to the divine call that beckons us Home. When we live in the present moment, we are making the most of this golden opportunity.
