At some point in our lives, we wonder about the meaning of life and about our purpose in being here. As we grow and transition through the various phases and chapters of life, we invest much time and effort in nurturing and strengthening our connections with others. Yet, somewhere along the way, relationships come to an end through misunderstandings or separation by distance or death, leaving a void in our lives. Suchlike experiences drive us to seek a permanent and everlasting relationship so that we are not alone in this world.
All relationships of this world will pass one day, said the spiritual Master. The only relationship that outlasts even our time on earth is our relationship with God, the Creator. How do we develop our relationship with God? To recognize God in our lives, we need to embrace the path of oneness and love. First, we need to create a strong foundation for our lives based on the ethical virtues of truthfulness, humility, compassion, nonviolence, and selfless service. Second, we need to take steps to experience God’s love and Light in our lives, and this happens as we meditate. When we withdraw our attention from the outer world and focus it on the inner spiritual worlds, we connect with God’s love and recognize God’s constant presence. We no longer feel alone in this world, and fear and anxiety begin to dissipate.
God does not forsake us—it is we who forget God. It is up to us to take steps to remember God. This happens as we take the time to sit in meditation daily.
