On the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, celebrated around the world, Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj addressed the topics of ecology, conservation, and living in harmony with our environment.
God has put beautiful systems in place to ensure that life is sustained on this planet, he said. He took the example of the symbiotic relationship between humans and plants that allows both species to thrive. The balance in nature ensures that all of God’s creation can live harmoniously together, and this perfect balance has sustained life. However, we as humans have not been responsible custodians of the bounty that has been bestowed upon us. We should learn to live in harmony with our environment, and to be generous, loving, and caring in how we share our natural resources with others, he said.
The global pandemic that has caused us all to change our way of life has also shown us the interconnectedness of life, said the spiritual Master. It has demonstrated how actions in one part of the world can have consequences in another part of the world. Sant Rajinder Singh Ji added that this interconnectedness can also be experienced at the level of the soul, for we are all connected spiritually. We experience this connection through meditation.
If we are to honor the earth and celebrate Earth Day, he said, let us realize that whatever we take from nature we should restore and replenish, not only for ourselves, our children, and grandchildren but for posterity. We need to recognize and embrace the oneness of God’s creation and treat our planet with loving care, as it is only in giving that we receive. We can begin to take steps toward this realization of oneness as we go within through meditation.
