Master’s Day: Honoring Saints and Founders of All Religions through Meditation
The fourth Sunday in July, which this year fell on July 24, is a special day called Master’s Day. Started in 1981 by Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj, it honors the saints, Masters, religious founders, and enlightened beings of all religious and spiritual traditions. Designed to promote unity and peace among the various religions, it allows people of all faiths and belief systems to sit together as one family to honor all the saints and Masters who have come through the ages.
The various religious and spiritual traditions have more commonalities than differences. The common core of each is the same. They have a belief in a higher Power, although called by different names, which created all of us. They also believe that we have a spiritual core within us created by the higher Power. They also speak of tapping into this spiritual side of ourselves through prayer, meditation, or inversion to uncover our Source. While language, terminology, and customs differ, at the heart of all are practices that connect our true essence, the soul, with the higher Power.
Saints, Masters, spiritual teachers, and enlightened beings, such as Buddha, Jesus Christ, Mahavira, Moses, Krishna, Rama, Guru Nanak, Kabir, Maulana Rumi, St. Teresa of Avila, Mira Bai, Hazur Baba Sawan Singh Ji Maharaj, Sant Kirpal Singh Ji Maharaj, or Sant Darshan Singh Ji Maharaj, and many others came to help connect people of their times with the divine within them. Is there anything positive we can take away from the major tragedies that sometimes happen in the world?
When people face massive tragedies in life, they often turn their attention to the questions of why are we here, what is important in life, and where do we go when we die. People who have been intensely striving to make more money, to rise up the corporate ladder, to amass as much name and fame and wealth as they can, suddenly take a step back to see if those goals are truly important in life. When we witness mass tragedies either due to natural disasters or human-made disasters on this planet, in which suddenly thousands of people wake up to go to work only to find that it is their last day on earth, people begin taking stock of what is truly important. People start to realize that the most important things in life are love of their family, love of their fellow beings, love of God, and their spirituality. As a result, people begin to turn inward. They realize the value of faith in God, love, and spiritual truths.
Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj discusses the tradition of celebrating spiritual Masters and teachers from all faiths and religions.
Once we reach a state where we can experience God in ourselves, we will be able to look beyond the outer characteristics of others and recognize God within them.

Searching for our True Self By Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj
The soul is our true self. If we would realize this, then our focus would be on God. We would spend our life desiring union with God instead of trying to amass worldly attainments that are impermanent. Our focus would be on the love of God and the love of our fellow beings. We would put our attention on serving our fellow human beings, for they are each embodied souls, or reflections of God. God resides in every heart. Read more
